OLIVER WESTLING SCORES TOP 5 FINISH IN DEBUT WEEKEND COMPETING IN FORMULA REGIONAL AMERICAS
California rookie Oliver Westling scored points in all three races in his debut weekend racing in the Formula Regional Americas Championship at Virginia International Raceway, including an impressive 5th place finish in the Sunday feature race.
Graduating to the Formula Regional Americas Championship was another big step in Oliver's race car driver development program, with view to competing full-time in the series during the 2023 race season.
Oliver has competed in eighteen (18) races over seven event weekends driving the Ligier F4 car, including the first four rounds of the 2022 F4 US Championship. To prepare for his F4 US series debut, Oliver also competed in the F4 West Coast Winter Series where he scored two podium finishes en route to a 2nd place result in the series championship.
Jensen F4 Championship Team owner Eric Jensen comments, "This spring we decided to augment Oliver's F4 development program with a series of test days driving our much faster Ligier F3 race car. Oliver showed impressive speed and consistency during his F3 test program, so I'm ecstatic to see how competitive that he was in his FR Americas debut as it bodes very well for a championship challenge as he graduates to the championship full-time next season."
Speeds increase substantially as young drivers graduate from the Ligier F4 race car to driving the considerably more powerful 303 horsepower turbocharged Ligier F3 race car. There is also the added challenge of understanding aerodynamic grip, as the Ligier F3 race car generates significantly more downforce from the diffuser and larger front and rear wings.
